it’s uniquely exciting for the audience and nerve-janglingly thrilling for the filmmakers
our straight 8 2022 top 25 world premiere took place on a saturday night 22nd october in london, in NFT 1, BFI Southbank, one of the most prestigious cinemas in the world, to a sold out house. thanks to all who came!
this is now followed three weeks later on november 12th by our global live stream premiere
key dates
* 22nd october 2022 - real world cinema premiere of top 25 in london's BFI Southbank flagship auditorium
* 12th november 2022 - global livestream - 8pm uk time
* by end november 2022 - all entrants' films delivered digitally
make a short film on one cartridge of super 8 - editing only with each pull of your camera’s trigger
submit your original soundtrack without yet having seen your visuals
and if it’s great, you’ll see your straight 8 for the first time ever, at our annual premiere with the world watching
it’s one of the hardest and most rewarding ways to make a film
and everyone everywhere is welcome to join in

your entry fee includes and contributes to:

- digital delivery of pro-res of every entered film

- perhaps the most unique filmmaking experience money can't buy - you also need talent, ideas, can-do attitude and a bit of magic
your entry fee excludes:
- your roll of super 8 film, which you buy yourself and which must be colour negative
- everything else you need to make your film
- your travel to premieres if selected and they happen in the real world
- re-imbursement if you don't get enough out of it. many straight8ers contact us after the shoot alone and tell us that no matter what happens with their film, they got a ton of experience and found it super-hard but amazing

we never have individual winners. the best 8 straight8ers of the year are all joint winners. the main prize is the glory and seeing your film for the very first time live with a global audience, be it at cannes (normally), any other big cinema screen or in one of our live streams. it's a buzz you won't forget. there's also a showcase of the top 25 - like in 2020/21.

- we used to send films around the world. it wasn't very green and caused delays. now you can enter, get your entry number and start shooting because you source your own super 8 cartridge - in fact you may already have a roll

- you must shoot on super 8 colour negative only. there are only 4 kinds
