+ 5. shootout 'the nature edition' was gr8. watch it and see who bagged our gold, silver and bronze trophies

our inter-company charity competition is called shootout and has slightly different rules. fifteen 2.5 minute short films, each made with one roll of super 8mm film and no post-production, live-streamed on april 29th. the theme was nature, a follow up to the isolation edition last year, and an impressive roll call of industry companies responded in their own distinct ways.

+ 6. there is a fourth kodak colour negative stock for super 8 (and we've got some) - get the lowdown

if you've ever shot on 250d kodak stock on 16mm or 35mm (or 65mm for that matter!), you'll know what a beautiful and versatile stock it is. if you're in the states - you may have used pro8mm's super 8mm 250d, but aside from theirs, you can't get it because kodak don't sell it as super 8.

well we were keen to give it a go, and thought if we're keen others might be too. so we have aquired a limited amount and can offer it for sale, currently only to people in the UK. please contact us if you're interested / for more details.

oh- and being colour negative super 8, it's eligible for use for straight 8 competitions. so that's now four stocks to choose from: 50d, 200t, 250d, 500t! good times!!

what a year for streaming services... well here's some good stuff we've been watching. check them out if you haven't already, if they're available where you are. and thanks for the recommendations that came to us on our feeling friday insta lives, like the salt of the earth, which is a great doc about sebastião salgado, that we'd missed.

special mentions though for the mauritanian which is a super-powerful film by kevin macdonald, edited by inaugral straight8er (1999) and straight 8 jury member justine wright. and... the new docuseries on apple+ as of may 21st, by jury member asif kapadia (senna, amy, diego) and his team: 1971: the year that music changed everything - we can't WAIT to start watching, and listening, to that one!
