we’re big fans of the zenit quarz! they’re built like tanks, don’t need AA batteries to run, and keep it simple. we love a super 8 camera packed full of features, but sometimes it’s nice to know you won’t accidentally shoot your whole film in macro mode.

lens: 9-38mm 4.2x zoom - f/1.8 - manual & auto exposure

shooting speeds: 9, 12, 18, 24, 32fps, single frame

hire fee: £75+VAT / day for weekdays | £125+VAT for weekends (collect fri pm, return mon am) - includes a main body and a backup in case of issues

hire info:

  • we always rent a pair of cameras out in case of any issues: they’re all antiques after all.

  • once the package is collected, from camden, it needs to be insured or in your care at your risk.  replacement value of this package is £600.

  • we can supply film at a 5% discount with any hire.

  • payment in advance. deposit taken if no insurance in place.

  • we will supply private link to explanatory video, manual, and can trouble shoot / teach you on collection / by remote during your shoot, within reasonable limits!!!

  • although we send you a spare body, this should only be used in case of issue with the first body. you are not hiring two cameras for use in a two-camera shoot, and the price reflects that. we also can’t offer any guarantees, or be held liable, in case of an issue with one or both of the cameras.

  • package includes: 2 x zenit quarz body with lens, screw-in remote cable, close-up filter, lightmeter batteries, case

more techy camera info:

  • meters: 12 - 200 ISO, manually selected. this includes kodak 50d, 100d, 200t, 250d. kodak 500t is fine in this camera, but auto-exposure will overexpose by one stop (we think this looks better anyway!!)

  • shutter speeds: 1/18s @ 9fps, 1/24s @ 12fps, 1/36s @ 18fps, 1/48s @ 24fps, 1/60s @ 32fps. 1/20s @ single frame (used via screw in remote cable)

  • lens: the main lens unscrews, and behind is an approximately 12mm fixed-focus lens. this camera can not accept other lenses

  • batteries: the camera requires 2x PX625 cells to power the light meter. these are inserted in a small compartment above the film chamber. they are supplied with your hire but must be returned.

  • diopter: this camera features an eyepiece that can be adjusted for different eyesights, so you don’t need to wear glasses / contacts. just turn the metal diopter lock wheel next to the eyepiece, and turn the rubber eyepiece to adjust.
